Thanks for checking out our newest Product, the Model & Staffing Planner. We've created this as we believe its really relevant at this current period in time. Many retailers are sadly having to reduce staffing levels in stores, cope with huge changes to the way they operate and are having to review their operations. We believe one of the best ways to do this is to start at the beginning, step back and look at your week and see what you need to do and who you need to do it.
Using the Model and Staffing Planner makes this job so much easier. All you need is a knowledge of your daily jobs your department / team need to do or areas you need to cover. You can plot this all into the planner for each day of the week, then start a fresh with your staffing and review which people need to be where to give you the best cover. It's a simple way to re-do your entire staffing model quickly and easily.

Once filled in you can review your operating hours, peoples working patterns and how you and your department work to make sure your getting the best out of your team and making the best use of the time. This is so important at the moment as many of you will be in the process of or looking to reduce or streamline your staffing.
As you can see above once completed you can review your Required FTE vs your actual FTE and you can even see which days your staff are in the wrong times to get the work done when its required.
To get started all you'll need is a good knowledge of all the jobs, tasks and areas that need to be staffed each day of the week. You'll first list all the tasks you and your team need to complete during the week, this is done on the summary page. You enter the tasks into the planner as shown below for each day of the week. How many people needed to complete each task and for how long. Once that's done this will build your staffing plan. The areas you need staffed at every 30 minute interval of the day. See an example below:

Following on from that you'll then use the Staffing Model page to plot in the hours you need your staff to work each day of the week. While doing that you can see which times of day you need more or less people and can adjust your standard shift patterns as required to make the best use of everyone. See an example below.

And that's all there is to it. Once you've put in all the information you can begin adjusting peoples shift patterns to make sure you have the right people at the right time to run your department. Now we appreciate this is very in-personal and won't consider things like people's requirements or work patterns, doesn't include breaks etc but it does give you a model to work to and to make sure your people are where you need them.
So, go ahead, head over to our resources page and scroll down to the Staffing Section where you can download the Model & Staffing Planner Tool or click the download link at the top of the post. We've launched this a bit earlier than expected so were still working on the full guide but feel free to download the tool and give it a go. Let us know what you think and if there's any improvements you need.
